District government cultural institutions

1. The State Budgetary Institution of Culture “Nenets Museum of Local Lore” - the oldest museum in the district, is the main state depository of museum values, a research and educational center for the history and culture of the region in the district. The museum has more than 40 thousand exhibits of the main and auxiliary funds, which allow you to comprehensively show the various aspects of history, life and life, especially the culture of the Nenets, Komi and Russians. At the district museum there are public organizations such as the Society of Local History Specialists and Friends of the Arctic. The museum oversees the activities of 14 public and corporate museums.

2. The State Budgetary Institution of Culture "Historical, Cultural and Landscape Museum-Reserve" Pustozersk "is engaged in the preservation, restoration, study and public presentation of the holistic historical, cultural and natural complex of the Russian North" Pustozersk "in research, cultural and tourist -excursion purposes. The museum funds have 3249 storage units.

3. State budgetary institution of culture of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug “Nenets Central Library named after A.I. Pichkova ”is an informational, cultural and educational center on the territory of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug. Since 2016, on the basis of this institution, a centralized library system with 33 branch libraries in the towns of the district was created.

4. The state budgetary institution of culture “Ethnocultural Center of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug” is a unifying and coordinating link for lovers of folk art. The institution provides informational and methodological assistance, the organization of large district shows, competitions, amateur art festivals and decorative and applied arts, the production of informational, repertoire, methodological, and fiction. On the basis of the ECC there is a Club of fellow countrymen of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug, uniting more than 30 national and territorial fraternities, the oldest in the North of Russia People’s Literary Association Zapolyarye, 45 club formations.

5. The state budgetary institution of culture of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug “Palace of Culture“ Arctic ”is the largest institution of culture in the region. On its basis large-scale business and cultural events of international, Russian, interregional and district levels are held. There are 12 club formations and an exhibition hall at the Palace of Culture, which carries out activities to promote the artistic, historical and cultural heritage of the peoples living in the region, domestic and foreign works of art.
In the field of folk art, there are more than 329 amateur club groups, more than 3,500 residents of the district are involved in the work of them. 22 collective has the title of "People" and "Exemplary."
In the field of folk art crafts in the district, 3 enterprises and more than 300 amateur craftsmen make products from leather and fur, deer and wood horns and bones, there are artistic hand knitting and patchwork, lace and beadwork.
Each year, the best representatives of the profession are awarded the honorary title “Honorary Worker of Culture of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug”, awarded with the regional badge “For Merits in the Development of Artistic Creativity”, and awarded with a district award for achievements in the field of culture.

Cultural Heritage

In the Nenets Autonomous Okrug, 33 objects of cultural heritage of regional significance (history and culture, monuments of architecture and urban planning, including wooden architecture) are registered and 1 object of cultural heritage of federal significance - a monument of archeology “Pustozersky fortification” of the 15th century.

All objects are registered in the Unified State Register of Cultural Heritage Sites (historical and cultural monuments) of the peoples of the Russian Federation. In addition, in 2012, data were collected and systematized on 898 identified archaeological heritage sites located in the district that date from different eras, from the Early Stone Age (Paleolithic) to the Bronze and Early Iron Age.

In the period from 2012 to 2017, 215 identified archeological monuments were guarded. In order to ensure the safety of cultural heritage sites in their historical environment, the boundaries of the territories of 20 cultural heritage sites, protection zones and special land use regimes and requirements for urban planning regulations within the territories of these zones of 18 cultural heritage sites of regional significance have been established and approved on the territory associated with them.

In order to preserve objects of cultural heritage, preserve and develop library and museum activities, traditional culture, inter-regional and international cultural relations, improve and develop the material and technical base of cultural objects, the state program of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug “Development of Culture and Tourism” is being implemented.
